Sasso Cavallo - Oppio
View route detailsHow could one possibly miss the Oppio route after the Cassin? A true limestone classic rates it, quite rightly, five stars! After a first attempt that ended at the Bietti hut due to an unexpected downpour (the forecast had promised only harmless cloud cover), we return to the Cavallo with great determination—and, above all, with a clear idea of what the south face really is. In two hours from the car we are already roped up and starting up this masterpiece by Nino Oppio and Oreste Dell’Era. The two must have been true visionaries to imagine such a line through overhanging walls back in 1938! The route is fully equipped and very well protected. It is still not a bad idea to bring a small rack, as some belays rely on slightly dubious pitons… The route goes quickly, even if the watch seems to disagree, but I still manage to be back in Milan in time for aperitivo!
