“Run, run, or these Germans will overtake us and we’ll end up stuck in a queue…” Too bad the Germans were actually heading for the ridge, so in the end we arrive exhausted at the base with no one in front of us… As part of the day’s usual series of small mishaps, we realize the camera battery is dead. The fatigue from the run-in is starting to show, and we let a fast-moving rope team from London pass us on the second pitch. The two of them free-climb the entire route on sight. We will meet them again at the hut and discover they have been in the Dolomites for 10 days, living out of a Ford Focus and not having showered once (their choice…)! The route is beautiful, sustained, and extremely varied.
