Torre di Valgrande - Carlesso Menti

View route details

The dawn at the Coldai hut is something magical, and the little towers of the Civetta, seen from below, evoke a powerful mix of emotions. It is quite special to walk beneath the quintessential northwest face. The Valgrande tower, once called the “Seconda Rocchetta,” is wrapped in clouds and peeks out through the white. It almost looks like a dragon exhaling. The imposing, monolithic red pillar offers only one weak line on its northern side, which Raffaele Carlesso and Mario Menti climbed in 1936. The route is very sustained, and a dihedral pitch on an unstable flake makes the whole climb particularly demanding. Also very interesting is the “Via delle guide,” which can be admired on the way back to the hut, where the food is excellent.
