Pilier Trois Points du Tacul - Perego Mellano Cavalieri

View route details

We set out with the Pilier Gervasutti in mind, but after pitching the tent at the Col Flambeaux, doubts begin to creep in. There are three of us, it would be our first mixed climb of the season—maybe not the best idea? In the end, we decide to fall back on the nearby Pilier à Trois Points, where, according to Buscaini, there should be a nice classic route. With the memory of the beautiful climbing on Becco di Valsoera still fresh, we go for the Perego–Mellano–Cavalieri route. The climb is nice, but not outstanding. The bergschrund—difficult and threatening—forces us to start on a different route and then traverse across at the level of the Perego’s start. The late start, the first rappel on a Piola route that we can’t find, and a slightly reduced enthusiasm compared to what we had for the Pilier Gervasutti lead us to admire a wonderful sunset from an unusual spot. The tent welcomes us back only around 11 p.m.!
