Monte nero (Cima d'Amola) - Couloir dell'H
View route detailsWhat can I say about this long-dreamed ascent? It all started last year, when I planned it with Matteo. We had reached the base, breaking trail through deep snow and arriving at the first step at around 10 a.m. At the time it already felt too late, so we turned back. Finally the weather improves: I take the opportunity to call Jacopo, who accepts without thinking twice. We arrive at the Segantini hut around 4 p.m. and start making bets: I think the hut will fill up, Jacopo thinks we’ll be alone. I win, and the surprise is huge when I see Juri arrive—one of the guys who had been at the hut with us last year, and who had also turned back then. The surprises don’t end there. After dinner I receive a message from Matteo: “Hey, how’s it going? Fancy going back to the H. couloir? It’s all tracked, even the approach… we leave tonight after dinner. What do you think?” In the morning we are the first to leave and the first to arrive. 7 a.m. at the base, 8:15 a.m. on the summit—no pitches, and the rope stayed in the backpack from start to finish. We wait at the top for the others to come out, then descend. Technically speaking, I expected it to be much harder. D+ as people say around here might even be an exaggeration…
