Val Febbraro - Salto del nido

View route details

And after the Sogno del gran scozzese, we head to Val Febbraro to try the Salto del Nido, which, as Saverio says, never disappoints. But Saverio isn’t here today because he got soaked in Val Daone… According to Jorge, he knows something he doesn’t want to tell us… A second pre-dawn alarm and the thirty minutes of dozing in Val Febbraro while waiting for daylight feel like a dream. We climb quickly and Jorge shows no signs of fatigue… he runs like a train and soon we are at the base. The icefall is a bit dirty with snow and covered in crust after the second pitch (or third in reality, since we climbed the first one unroped). We reach the final wall, which we decide to climb straight up in the centre, tempted by the perspective and the apparently good-looking ice; the idea does not turn out to be one of the best. Halfway up the pitch I hand over the lead to Jorge, who finishes it, not exactly without difficulty. For those who come after, it should be better… we knocked down quite a lot of crust, and now everything is quite chopped up…
