Rocce del Sueur - Inattesa sorpresa + La bava

View route details

**DAY 1** And so the cheerful group, after a short stop at the motorway service station (luckily we didn’t arrive in the Valsusa too early, given the temperatures), heads towards Sestriere (which I didn’t know was so slippery) with the destination *L’Altro Volto del Pianeta*. Saverio arrives at the belay of the first pitch, after having created a cemetery of ice at the base of the pillar. We decide it’s better not to continue, so he rappels and retrieves the gear. It’s not very early, but we can still do a little “bushwhacking” (just about 45 minutes of running to reach the base) towards the Boucher waterfall. Unfortunately, in the morning rush I leave the camera in the trunk, so I don’t even have a souvenir photo. For those interested, conditions are as follows: Boucher in excellent shape, *L’Altro Volto* has brittle ice and a large horizontal fracture in the middle of the pillar. --- **DAY 2** Still driven by the motto “it’s all training,” which inspired us the day before, we decide that the approach to *Inattesa Sorpresa* is not long enough—and so we extend it by about an hour, just in time to find a queue in front of us! Today we get one pitch each, just like yesterday. Both ice flows are really beautiful, shame they are constantly swept by spindrift. The bar that welcomed us after the “terror dihedral” at Militi will be our final destination for the day. A couple of notes for future visitors: to climb *Inattesa Sorpresa*, park in front of the little hut where you buy the cross-country ski pass. We stayed overnight at the B&B “Per Te” in Oulx—very welcoming and pleasant.
