Piz de Mucia - Normale dalla capanna Genziana

View route details

“They’re forecasting a weather window for Sunday in Switzerland. Shall we go to San Bernardino?” “We could go back to Bregagno and climb it from the north!” “Come on, be good… let’s go to the Zapporthorn.” “Alright, we’ll talk later and decide.” So the outing begins like this, with a completely different destination that soon falls apart… There is a very strong wind and, above all, a track that leads nowhere. 1500 meters like this, slabby terrain that gives bad omens, and a couloir that will probably be extremely dangerous convince us to abandon the original plan. We descend a bit and pick up another track, with an unspecified destination that we later discover to be Piz de Mucia. Surprise follows one after another: we pass a first group and instead of breaking trail, we find a trench; we don’t even see a single trace of descent; we cross beneath an unsettling avalanche, yet everything is perfectly stable; just a few minutes from the summit we catch up with a group from the Saronno CAI who have kindly broken the entire track and even generously let us take the first turns on the descent! Despite the wind, the snow is fantastic for the entire upper section of the descent (the lower part a bit less so). A great outing—and beautiful are the icicles falling from the roof of the bar, all evenly spaced, because precision is essential in certain things!
