Marchhorn - Da All'acqua per il Canalone
View route detailsOut of a thousand ideas, in the end we choose the one that was at the very bottom of the list, seasoning it with a surprise. The initial indecision between Bernina, Pizzo Campo Tencia, Rotondo, Basodino, Pizzo Forno, and Marchhorn turns into an excellent decision. We decide to descend the central couloir of the west face, without really knowing where it is. Once at the summit, we see a couloir already swept by avalanches, which certainly “cannot be the one we want to descend” (!!!!!! but of course it is), so we end up taking the other couloir. Jacopo, tormented by the thought of having descended the wrong line, will spend half a day studying a photo of Marchhorn to confirm that we actually took the main couloir and not the west couloir. Not a big deal in the end. The descent is very fun, with excellent snow for the entire upper part of the tour. The final valley and the forest, however, are ruined by numerous tracks and refreezing, and require a fair amount of leg work.
