Cervandone - Per il canalino Ferrari con discesa dal colle Marani
View route detailsIt had been a while since we last had an apocalyptic early wake-up: 4:10 a.m. is still a good start to get back into good habits. We set off. Destination: Alpe Devero. At Gravellona, Marco joins us (according to Jacopo, a fisherman with boots and a couple of fishing rods—in reality, Gore-Tex pants, skis, and poles). The plan is to climb and descend the Ferrari couloir on skis. We set off with skis on our feet, and I watch the rest of the group pull further and further away. Fortunately, I gradually find my form again and catch them just before the couloir. Conditions are not bad, but not great either (the whole line is stepped out from top to bottom, with annoying bumps and patches of wind-affected snow here and there). We decide to climb the couloir, reach the summit, and then inspect the parallel line. From the top, the clouds hide Italy but leave Switzerland clearly visible. Good snow and fun turns bring us into the descent couloir, which has already avalanched and, due to the warmth and soft snow, doesn’t really convince us. A series of skis-on, skis-off begins, which eventually leads us to the summit of Punta Marani, from where a fun valley descent follows in excellent transformed snow (the final section a bit less excellent), bringing us back to the Devero huts. A very fun “braille skiing” descent.
