The name is a bad omen… After paying the 5-euro toll for the Predarossa parking area, we discover that the road is closed due to an avalanche. We set off with boots and skis on our backs and walk for a little over an hour to reach the parking lot. From there the trip goes well, and we quickly reach the Sella di Pioda. Stefano, a bit tired, waits there for me while I go on alone to the summit of Picco Glorioso. We abandon the plan to descend the Schenatti couloir due to dangerously unstable snow conditions. The descent is brutal: after 400 meters of perfect turns, we find 1300 meters of all kinds of sticky snow—mostly Bostik-like glue… not to mention the final hour of carrying skis on our backs to get back to the car.
