Sasso Cavallo - Dieci piani di morbidezza
View route detailsAfter skiing the Picco Glorioso, 1150 meters of approach no longer scare me, so I decide with Jacopo to try the “10 piani”. We head up with Marco and Ricky, two guys who arrived shortly after us at the start but decide to begin still in the shade while we wait for the sun. The cold start forces some A0 aid, and then we move into a section where “climbing doesn’t disturb the grass too much” (quote: Saverio). Overall, the first five floors are equipped in standard Lecchese style and pose no problems, while the upper ones have a bit more bite. Marco and Ricky, not having a good day, retreat after the fifth floor, while Jacopo, with great skill and a couple of precautionary rests, reaches the belay. Then it’s my turn: 7 bolts in 40 meters, the first three in the first 10 meters and the last one just two meters below the anchor. “Each bolt was like a happy island in that stormy sea of slabs” (quote: Saverio). The rock is beautiful and “you don’t fall—but if you do…” (quote: Ulisse), and “the rock is so grippy that to fall you’d have to throw yourself off” (Saverio). Luckily, the only hard move is right at a bolt. Everything goes well, and in no time we complete all ten floors. Now we can take the elevator back down. Time to celebrate, and a big Chinese take-away dinner is the best way to do it!
