Gran Paradiso - Dal colle di Montandayne

View route details

I’d been thinking about this traverse for a couple of years, but I never would have expected a proposal like this from Edo, on a miserable rainy afternoon. We set off at 10:30 p.m. with the crazy idea of doing the climb in a single day. After an hour of sleep, we wake up with our sleeping bags soaked and decide to grab another half hour. It’s 3:30 a.m., and this time it’s really time to get up. A quick breakfast with some very fine English tea, and then we start moving fast. The conditions on the route are perfect, and everything goes smoothly. The wind is very strong, and unfortunately the sun barely shows. From the summit ridge we take a look at the north face — it looks in perfect condition for a ski descent!!!!! We stop by the Chabod Hut for a snack, then head quickly down, though without rushing, back to the car. We arrive exactly 12 hours after setting off.
