A beautiful, clear day — cold, with unbelievable powder… what better way to bring this site back to life after such a long standstill caused by a series of misfortunes? For six days I’ve been keeping an eye on Swiss avalanche bulletins, forecasts, and snow maps, and finally the moment has come: we want powder, and the highest quality. The tour is very long, but Marco and I feel in great shape and take turns breaking trail. The turreted castle of Zwachten watches over us for the first half of the trip. The skis — 120 mm underfoot — are heavy, but we still make it to the base of the final slope around lunchtime. We decide it’s too dangerous to continue, so we choose to stop and charge all the way back down to the valley. An incredible descent, in a wild and deserted place — absolutely one to repeat!
