The tour was planned late at night. The next morning, having had little sleep and coming off a trip to the Breithorn del Sempione—which had very little snow—we set off on a seemingly endless hike. After reading online that the ascent goes through the RotondoHutte, I arrive at the summit exhausted, fueled by a precious 5-franc Swiss Coca-Cola. Yeah, sure, there’s powder and all, but if we have to descend the way we came up, the trip is a total bust! Luckily, we’d read about the possibility of descending via more challenging slopes on the opposite side. After watching four people jump down into the unknown, we decide to follow them.
