Funffingerstock - Normal route from Faringen

In my mind, ‘Sustenpass’ is synonymous with ski mountaineering with a capital S: the road is covered in snow, there are few houses and they’re often hidden beneath the white blanket, and the tours are challenging but often still in excellent conditions. The Funffingerstock involves a long approach, from Faringen almost all the way to the pass, but it’s definitely worth it! What a magnificent tour! Some lovely steep slopes; unfortunately, the snow was a bit crusty, but still great fun on my skinny 116-mm, 190-cm skis. We skied the whole way up, though we did come across some tracks on the descent left by someone who’d decided not to make it to the col. I’d recommend doing it again when the road is passable by car to avoid the first 5 km of false flat, which isn’t exactly pleasant on long skis… But having fun doesn’t necessarily have to be fun
