Nordend - Normale dalla MonterosaHutte

View route details

After a weekend living like magnates, we decide to go even bigger. The forecast is not great, but the idea that it might snow on Saturday night turns out to be a perfect motivation. We arrive in Täsch, where a parking lot with floors cleaner than any house I have ever been in immediately puts us in awe. We don’t put anything on the ground and take the train to Rotenboden, where we load huge packs onto our shoulders and head for Golgotha—better known as the Monte Rosa Hut. The hut is luxurious, dinner is abundant with second helpings of the main course, and the beds are comfortable, even if with Gughi in the room it feels like sleeping in a sawmill. We set off and my legs feel like stone, but fortunately I’m not the only one and I have company. I warm up quickly and find my rhythm again. We reach the serac zone, and after a bit of wandering around Marco gets fed up and decides to turn back. The great pharaoh Gughi, despite the doubts clearly written on his face, chooses to continue with me and Jack. We find the route to the Silbersattel and finally reach the summit. Sinister clouds gather over the mountains. We abandon the original plan of also climbing the Dufourspitze and descend on some of the most incredible snow I have ever skied—of course, in summer.
