Torre Trieste - Spigolo Tissi con uscita Couzy

View route details

We drive up to that hairpin bend from which the Spiz di Lagunaz can be seen in all its magnificence: the Casarotto de Dona’ is soaking wet. Fede senses my hesitation and we immediately start thinking that maybe we should change destination. One last check before dinner (after all, we were there for that route), but the crux pitch is still black and slick. The mere idea of going back there just to climb that slippery slab again is crushing. We head to the Civetta instead, on the sunlit side, choosing an easy route since descents in that area can be tricky… A short route, naturally, for Federico’s first experience in the Dolomites: the Tissi on the Torre Trieste. The guidebook says 6–8 hours for the ascent, which on paper sounds like a walk in the park. We are skeptical. In the end, the guidebook was right: between rebarring pitons, wet pitches on the Couzy variation, and three jammed rappels that we have to re-climb, it turns into a full-day outing. Luckily the mood stays high and we reach the car convinced that tomorrow we will climb (a thought that will indeed come true), and fortunately tomorrow turns out to be the day after tomorrow or so.
