Grosses Grunhorn - Dalla Konkordiahutte

View route details

As often happens—given that I had promised myself I would forget about the Oberland for at least a year after all the cold and the endless descent in April—with Marcello, Luigi and Fabio we spontaneously plan a trip to the Grosses Grünhorn. We leave early, aiming to reach Fiesch and catch the 9:30 cable car, but someone must have hidden the green lights on the Simplon Pass, and by the time we arrive in Fiesch we see the last gondola leaving the valley station. At 12:20 we are up, and after about 5 km of carrying skis on our backs we reach the snow. The glacier is in much worse condition than in April, but we still manage to set a good track up to the Konkordia. During the night someone shouts in German and wakes everyone up; luckily we still managed to sleep until 2:30! We are the last ones out, and we set off on marble-hard snow that forces us to keep crampons on for the entire ascent. We return to the ski depot after the summit ridge with perfect timing: except for the first slope, the snow has already softened and the descent is pure joy. All that’s left is the usual Aletsch Glacier descent and a 5 km ski carry, but we all know that goes by in no time… P.S. I’ve attached the GPX track to the trip report.
