Pizzo Badile - Stella Retica

View route details

Search on Google “Stella Retica”: a wine comes up. It seems like a coincidence, but maybe this is exactly the route we’re meant to do. It’s always a special occasion when Fede and I manage to organise a climb. An excess of accumulated holidays makes everything easier, so we arrange to meet at Kundaluna, where I run into the legendary rope team from the “Tempio della gioventu' psichica”, Jack and Fede. Jack needs some information about Val di San Lucano, and before long we end up having dinner at his place talking about the Dolomites. Meanwhile the thunderstorm stops. It’s late, but the air is cool. We decide to take advantage of it and head up to the Gianetti hut under one of the most spectacular full moons I’ve ever seen: the silver reflections of the waters of Val Porcellizzo and the trail markers like beacons guide us to the hut. After 150 minutes of sleep, we are ready to go and start up the Molteni route to avoid the snow that would make the first pitches of Stella Retica unpleasant. When we reach the last belay, with one straight abseil and one very diagonal one, we manage to regain the descent, avoiding the summit of the Badile, still dirty with the snow from the previous day. We descend to San Martino, and while we are being served pizzoccheri my phone rings: it’s Marcello, calling to ask if I’m interested in Religion Rebel at Torre del Moai (to be continued…)
