Angelo "Angelo" Curti

I remember well the year I first met Filippo, 2014. That year we visited some beautiful cliffs I hadn’t climbed yet and tackled routes that were anything but easy, first and foremost the Qualido and Torre Trieste. Since then, as his climbing resume grew longer and longer with many difficult ascents, we’ve always stayed in touch, alternating periods of frequent contact with others where our meetings were more sporadic. We’ve shared quite a few adventures together, from peaceful days at the crag to some ski mountaineering trips tackled at a pace that wore us out and left us completely exhausted, not to mention the beautiful routes we climbed and a few bivouacs under the stars. As you might imagine, we’ve also had to turn back with our tails between our legs on certain occasions. “It’s part of the game,” one might say, but it’s always a bit disappointing. The only thing missing would be teaming up with him for an ice climb, but I’ve come to realize by now that vertical ice isn’t Filippo’s favorite element. I’m a mathematician, he’s a physicist—every now and then, it’s nice to have a chat that’s a bit more scientific than usual; we don’t have to go around talking only about mountains and mountaineering!
